What should I do next with my hair?

What to do with my hair? I feel like almost everyone has asked this question at least once! We all face the fear of changing but crave something new at some point. The chance to feel like a new person, to look in the mirror and stop for a moment to actually see yourself. Yes! Change can be incredible. If you’re nervous, or not sure what change to make you’ve come to the right place! I’ve got 3 critical questions you need to ask yourself before deciding what to do next!

DO I WANT A CHANGE BIG ENOUGH TO MAKE ME FEEL LIKE A NEW PERSON?

I know it sounds dramatic but hair is an accessory that we wear at ALL TIMES! Changing it can change the way your skin looks and how your eyes pop, it can make you show off your tan or make your glowing white skin SHINE. A big change will make you feel different in the mirror. It will also make your clothes and makeup feel different! It could be the one feature that forces you to embark on your major makeover without having to buy new clothes and makeup!

It’s important to see someone you trust for this. Find out what will push your comfort zone but still make you feel beautiful. If you don’t feel shocked, the change wasn’t big enough! So if you even kind of answered yes to this, you definitely need to try something new! Just keep in mind your long-term hair goals and what is possible for your hair. If you know you like being blonde or if you like being low-maintenance with a natural root, just keep in mind that there’s ways to feel a big change without compromising your main values.

I want a change, but i’m nerVOUS!

That big of a change sounds intimidating? Maybe you need a minor reno and not an entire rebuild! Here’s what I’m wondering: Are you working towards a long-term goal?(a.k.a growing your hair long/going blonde/regaining your hair’s health) Have you ever pushed your comfort zone? When was the last time you tried something that scares you?

If you have a long-term goal in mind, and you feel like you’re getting closer… FOR THE LOVE OF HECK don’t derail. You’ll always wonder, “what if?”. If you have a long-term goal in mind and it feels like an exhausting journey, maybe it’s time to feel proud of what you’ve got! Maybe it’s scary, but try something that will enhance what you’ve got now, even if it prolongs your journey.

Never pushed your comfort zone? Well that’s just fine! Lots of people haven’t. But if you’re reading this you must be thinking about it! A change doesn’t have to be scary! Just try layers, or something blunt. I know, you’ve heard that before. TRY STYLING YOUR HAIR DIFFERENTLY! It sounds so simple but it is so hard to break old habits. Go to the salon, ask your stylist how to style your hair a new way. I promise there’s a few new ways without spending that much extra time!

For color… Try introducing new tones. Try warm if you normally like it icy. Try rose or blush if you always stay blonde. Have you thought about leaving your roots dark? Have you tried introducing a little caramel or blonde into the interior of your brunette hair? The world is your oyster! Just try something small!

I KNOW WHAT I WANT. SHOULD I GO FOR IT?

SO MANY PEOPLE BRING ME PICTURES OF WIGS! I think it’s important to start with that because it’s so important to know how realistic your goals are. Yes, if you know what you want of-course you should go for it. But here are my questions: Does the new look fit your lifestyle(i.e. maintenance, styling..)? Do you need to grow your hair for more than 1 year to achieve your new look? Can your hair get that color within 3 visits? Will you miss putting your hair in a ponytail?(shout-out to the ladies cutting all your hair off)

Often times people come in knowing the change they want to make but the instant change they crave is more of a long-term goal. Which is no problem.. It just takes longer than 1 visit. Listen to the changes you need to make, stop stressing over what you can do to get your goal faster, and please… Be real! If you’re going in for a major chop it’s important to remember that it WILL grow back, but it’s also important to know that you’ll have to spend a little time learning new ways to style it! If you’re going in for something exciting and new you should spend a little time at home finding new ways to keep your hair stylish and healthy with your new look!
